Global business and technology services company

The Client: Our client is a global IT company listed on the Dow and provides IT services across virtually all sectors.

The Commission: sineQN were asked to provide full project management services, including an installation and commissioning strategy, to upgrade a 20,000sq ft live data centre in Copenhagen. This involved upgrades to generators, UPS and transformers over an 8 month period. The project was amongst our client’s top ten most important projects globally.

Planning: The key driver for the successful delivery of the project was to develop the most efficient programme at absolute minimal risk to the business. Also key was obtaining all local authority approvals on a fast-track basis. Not only was the commission complex in engineering terms, the design team was UK based and there was a need to engage a local Danish contractor familiar with local code.

Delivery: The project required 3 mission critical switchovers as well as numerous high risk work activities, all of which needed to be approved by our client’s stringent internal process before taking place. On completion of a full competitive bidding process, sineQN set up procedures to review the UK design with the local contractors to ensure code compliance. A local contract administrator was engaged to advise on the most suitable form of contract and then to administrate this. sineQN were in Copenhagen for 2 days per week for the 8 month project, providing a full project management role.

Success: All major milestones were met and the project completed within budget at the end of May 2008. Our client has hailed this as the best executed data centre upgrade project that he has ever been involved with.
